Ronnie Gayle Dreyer Interview by Charlotte BensonInside This Issue

Ronnie Gale Dreyer

Charlotte: Good evening, Ronnie. Thank you for taking the time to chat with me about Jyotish. Just for the record, we are beginning this conversation while Shani is rising, and Mangal is setting!

Ronnie Gale Dreyer: Yes, this is kind of a nasty aspect, especially if it combines with something else. The Nodes of the Moon are also on the eclipse point. So when you gather those sort of malefic forces, plus the Venus retrograde in fall in the navamsa- things are not that great in the world right now.

CB: Well, we're just going to have to rise above these conditions, because I have a long list of questions for you. The first of which is about your origins in Astrology. What's a nice girl like you doing in a Dharma like this? LOL.

RGD: If you read the Introduction in my book, Vedic Astrology, you'll get a good idea of how I met my gurus and my teachers.

CB: That's an amazing tale of traveling overland from Greece to India, and your "chance" meetings with a professor of Jyotish, and then a Jyotish pundit, who became your teachers. You write in your wonderful book that you intended it for the Western astrologer who wanted to apply Hindu astrology to his/her own study of Occidental astrology.

RGD: Right. I started out as a Western astrologer- as many of us did. When I was a child I really loved astronomy, and the stars. My father worked with McGraw-Hill publishers. In 1972 he brought home the big beautiful book "The Complete Astrologer" by Derek and Julia Parker. He thought that I would like the book, because I liked learning about the planets - Dad used to take me to the planetarium in New York. I read that book cover-to-cover, and just got totally hooked. That was my original introduction to Astrology. From that point on I was just totally obsessed with it.

Then I went to Europe, and traveled, and did a lot of Astrology. When I went to India, I decided to study Astrology seriously.

A Quick Look Back

When I was a little girl, about 6 or 7 years old, I got to spend much of my summer along with my cousin Kathy at my Grandpa’s farm in Oklahoma.

They often let us sleep alone outside under the stars.

My Grandmother would spread a homemade patchwork quilt (which she called a comforter) out on the ground in the front of the house and cover us up with another one - while my

Grandfather sat in his rocking chair on the porch and watched the stars. One night he pointed to the sky and said to us, “Look there – see that? That’s Sagittarius! And that - that there’s Scorpio!”

That night began my early studies of constellations and the movement of the planets through the heavens.

I have a spiritual teacher who calls his organization a movement. When asked why he chose that word, he replied “because it is meant to move!” I remember when I heard that remark, thinking of my grandfather explaining how planetary movement and orbits worked.

Once we heard my Grandfather say that he wanted to plant a few acres of strawberries (a tricky crop) and my
Grandmother totally flipped out! “Ralph! You can’t plant strawberries; you’ll put us in the poor house! He quietly replied, “I’ve done the charts.” Well, he planted and we had fantastic strawberries, what he called a bumper crop.

Later, I told him that I wanted to know how to make the charts, too. Four decades later, I’m still making the charts, (after taking a few detours like college, and becoming a meditation teacher and adding to my grandfather’s sidereal astrological teachings with Jyotish.

If you live where there is still danger of frost for planting this early, then drop us a note at editor@acvaonline.org and we will provide mid June to mid July planting tips in next month's issue.

I live in Wisconsin, where we can have frost till after Memorial Day. I'd love to hear what you have to say about planting mid-May and after.

BTW, I am doing some experimenting this year with different planting times, comparing results of planting in what Western Astrology says are good times with that of planting in good times according to Vedic Astrology.

I have not found much info. so far, though, on planting according to Vedic astrology. Can you refer me to some sources?

For instance, I'd like to know about the influence of the Moon being in various Sun signs vs. various nakshatras, some of which overlap Sun signs.

Thanks,
Shivani Arjuna

May 2009 Planting Tips

May Planting TipsThere are many good books on muhurta (electional timing horoscopes,) and Parashara’s Light and other software programs offer muhurta modules which are good tools for learning about electional charts.

Please do not rely entirely on these programs for your final choice, as a good ascendant must be chosen for each electional chart, dependant upon your location and weather. Complete May Planting Tips

Our first ACVA online webinar took place on April 18th 2009 with Vedic Astrologer Gary Gomes on the subject of Jaimini astrology. Several of us took the class and found it very clear and helpful for those people that are just beginning their studies in Jaimini, as well as a nice review for those of us who “know,” Jaimini who were happy to receive an orderly and structured review or “refresher,” course on this fascinating type of Vedic Astrology.

To purchase and attend the next live webinar on May 16th with Ronnie Gale Dreyer on "Putting It All Together" - Ronnie will review how to interpret a chart step by step and using Barack Obama's chart she will show how this method works like a charm.
