Planetary Transits Summer 2014

By Charlotte Benson

2014 Planets: Summer Solstice – Autumnal Equinox June 21st marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The day when the Sun reaches its most northern position in the sky, and seems to stand still before changing direction, going south again, until December 21. June 21 is the longest day, and the shortest night of the year, north of the equator.

The planets begin this season is these positions:

Sun is in Gemini, in Mrigishira nakshatra; Mercury is retrograde in Gemini; Venus in Taurus; Mars continues it long transit of Virgo. Jupiter has just entered Cancer, the sign of its exaltation, where its power for expansion and protection operates at a 12-year high. This is a much anticipated transit. It is to be hoped that we can exert ourselves to make the most of its promised potential evolution, in many ways. Increasing understanding and wisdom, tolerance, peace, support for children and families, improved domestic conditions and food issues, and respect for Mother Earth would be a good start! Scorpio, Sagittarius and Pisces Lagna's benefit.

Saturn, also, is in the sign of its exaltation, Libra, continuing there until early November. It is passing through Vishakha nakshatra. While Saturn is in the sign of Libra it throws its special 10th house aspect onto exalted Jupiter, perhaps curtailing some of the exuberance of Jupiter until November. Saturn in Libra is well-organized, self-disciplined, and oriented towards working steadily towards common goals. Capricorn and Aquarius Lagna's benefit through most of the rest of the year.
Rahu/Ketu continue their transit through Libra and Aries, respectively, until mid-July.
Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are visible in the night sky during the early part of Summer.

Keep in mind that all planets are weak by degrees as they are leaving a sign, (not a nakshatra) and entering the succeeding sign.
