The Observatory
2014 Planets: Autumnal Equinox - Winter Solstice

September 22, 2014 marks the Autumnal Equinox, the day when day and night (nox) are equal in length. The Sun continues in its southerly direction, until December 21.

The planets begin this quarter in these positions:

The Rahu/Ketu axis is in Pisces/Virgo. Saturn/Shani continues through the sign of its exaltation, Libra, until November 2. Jupiter/Guru continues through the sign of its exaltation, Cancer, for the duration. Mars/Kuja begins to pick up speed, and moves through Scorpio, Sagittarius, and into Capricorn, its exaltation sign. The Sun/Surya transits the constellations of Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, and Sagittarius.

Venus/Shukra begins this season in Leo; then the sign of its debilitation, Virgo; and through Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius. Mercury/Budh is in Libra, then retrogrades back into its exalted sign, Virgo; and eventually back through Libra, then swiftly through Scorpio and Sagittarius.

This 3rd quarter of 2014 was remarkable in that many planets are, or were, in the signs of their ownerships, or their exaltations - where they behave in a most powerful manner. It is to be hoped that our readers were able to make the highest and best use of this rare combination of simultaneous beneficial influences.

Some other considerations:

Saturn/Shani is throwing its special 10th house aspect onto Jupiter/Guru, perhaps curtailing some of Jupiter’s blessings, until Saturn moves into Scorpio on November 2. Then Jupiter's wonderful 5th house aspect contacts Saturn, providing a solid background for good business results, good ideas, and general prosperity in the material world. Jupiter trines Venus beginning November 11 until December 5. This should make for a joyous period. Jupiter will also throw a useful and creative trine onto Mars while it's in Scorpio, culminating around October 8. Saturn in Scorpio in turn throws its special 3rd house aspect onto Mars in Capricorn, culminating around December 1.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2.00 am Sunday, November 2. Clocks in most of the U.S. "fall" back 1 hour.

Just a reminder that all planets are "weak by degrees" just before leaving a sign, and just after entering a sign. We notice this mainly in the middle of every month as the Sun changes signs. ("Signs/Rasis," not nakshatras.) This calls for care and patience as the Sun gains strength.
