Course 101
Foundations of Vedic Astrology
Course 101 presents the historical basis for the Vedas and explains the role that Jyotish has in Vedic culture. It gives a brief introduction to the classical Vedas, and the key concepts that make it unique among the world’s philosophical systems. The course introduces the various types of astrology, and teaches the basics of astronomy. This knowledge is critical to continued education in Vedic astrology.
Course 102
Introduction to Grahas:
The Planets
Course 102 introduces the first of the cornerstones of Vedic astrology: the grahas, or planets. Developing the ability to assess planetary strength and qualities is the first step in Vedic chart interpretation. All subsequent knowledge of Vedic astrology has its basis in this cornerstone.
Course 103
Introduction to Rasis:
The Signs and Ascendants
Course 103 explores the second cornerstone of Jyotish which comprises the twelve signs of the zodiac, known as rasis in Vedic astrology. In the previous course, we explored the characteristics of each planet. These characteristics are modified according to the zodiacal sign in which the planet is placed in an astrological chart. The use of the zodiac signs is a critical component of astrological interpretation. In addition, this course focuses on the unique qualities of signs of the various ascendants.
Course 104
Introduction to Bhavas:
The Houses
Course 104 teaches the final cornerstone of Jyotish, the bhavas or astrological houses. It teaches the common Sanskrit names and key significators for each house, exploring the areas of life and events represented by each house. The course gives an understanding of the four aims of life (purusharthas), the characteristics of each house ruler, and the difference between benefic and malefic houses and house rulers. It introduces different house systems, the North and South Indian chart styles, the karaka planets for the houses, and the ways in which to interpret the placement of planets in the signs and houses (the concept of astrological synthesis).
Course 105
Introduction to Aspects and Yogas:
Connections and Combinations
Course 105 focuses on astrological aspects and planetary yogas, exploring what each yoga is good for and how it is used, and the way to evaluate the strength of a yoga in order to determine how noticeable its effects will be. Twenty of the most important yogas are identified, including the Maha Purusha yogas, along with the details regarding when/if a yoga will manifest fully. The course also introduces the concept of different levels and meanings of interpretation in Jyotish shastra.
Course 106
Chart Analysis:
Part One
Course 106 teaches the basic principles of how to judge an astrological chart using all the building blocks studied so far. This interpretation course offers an approach to applying Vedic astrological knowledge and its associated practices in a systematic and integrated manner. It explains the astronomical background that the chart represents, and how to incorporate the influences of yogas and other special planetary placements and relationships.
Course 107
Nakshatras: Constellations, and
Vargas: Divisional charts
Course 107 introduces the nakshatras or lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. To appreciate the depth and uniqueness of Vedic astrology, one must encounter and explore the nakshatras. The twenty-seven nakshatras are considered to be the original and primordial level of the sidereal zodiacal belt. The course also introduces the sixteen vargas or divisional charts. In particular, the ninth divisional chart known as the navamsha will be studied.
Course 108
Chart Analysis:
Part Two
Course 108 applies what was learned in Course 106 to a specific sector of an astrological chart. A general approach to chart interpretation is to review a select set of significations or karakas for that chart. This course offers an analytical approach used to focus on a specific area of life, such as finances, health, or relationships.
Course 109
Forecasting
Course 109 explores the dynamic indicators that show the timing of events and developments of the life. The system of Vedic astrology encompasses more than interpretation of the meanings embedded in the natal chart. It further clarifies the difference between static and dynamic astrological indicators.
Course 110
Upayas:
Remedial Measures; Ethics, Counseling, and Review
Course 110 teaches the concept of remedial measures (upayas), and why you would use them, as well as descriptions of various remedial measures. It also covers ethics in a professional setting, and counseling skills, for those who wish to establish a practice. The course also introduces other Vedic sciences and a review of Courses 101 to 109.
