Winter 2010 Presidents Letter by WIlliam LevacyInside This Issue

William Levacy
2010 Winter Solstice

Winter solstice will occur at 23:38 (or 11.38pm) Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on December 21, 2010. For the Western Hemisphere, a total lunar eclipse will "officially" begin on Dec. 21 at 12:29 a.m. EST (or at 9:29 p.m. PST on Dec. 20, the day before).

As the Winter time comes upon us in the Northern Hemisphere, we have a time traditionally marked by rebirth, new beginnings, and celebratory wishes for sustainability.

Sustainability is the capacity to endure. Over the years the American College of Vedic Astrology™ (ACVA) has tried different models for educating our learners but not all of them have been able to support themselves. They have not prevailed through the “Winter” seasons, both in terms of the revenues they self-generated and from the ongoing support of a dedicated community. As we've seen, moving towards sustainability creates social challenges. In the natural evolution of things, systems must remain diverse, adaptable, and productive to thrive over the span of time. Organizations must be able to adjust to the needs of the individuals and the time they serve in order to stay healthy financially and spiritually. Sustainability involves the balanced ecology

ACVA's Gift Giving Campaign 2011

On August 14, 2000 we received confirmation from the Internal Revenue Service that the American College of Vedic Astrology was granted 501 (c) (3) non-profit educational status. This allows the College to receive charitable donations, gifts, grants and endowments for resource development. As a result of generous donations in the past we were able to develop the ACVA Online Program, which began operations in Nov. of 2003.

We invite you to use the end of the giving period of 2010 to offer a tax free donation to help all students seeking Vedic educational opportunities worldwide. Use the donation link to help ACVA raise funds for 10 scholarships in 2011 and be part of a Cosmic Gift giving campaign to uplift our Dharma worldwide.

ACVA Online Flex Program

This exciting and innovative ACVA Flex Model continues the American College of Vedic Astrology's (ACVA) ongoing philosophy of adapting as conditions change and discovering new ways of offering Vedic education. ACVA continues to work to find ways to include all teachers, tutors and teaching disciplines in our Online teaching model. ACVA is focused on the quality, convenience and availability of Vedic education to all students across the globe who wish to participate in our great Online Vedic astrology learning community. Beyond the standard course tuition and test fees, ACVA does not require additional membership fees or dues from students or teachers who are seeking certification or are already certified.

When the student feels they are ready then they can take the ACVA online 'test out' exam covering the ACVA Level I Module topics of Philosophy, Astronomy, Grahas, Rashis and Bhavas.

This new ACVA learning model gives students the flexibility to pass over introductory material if they feel they are advanced enough to do so, or if they wish, they can take lessons on the fundamentals of Vedic astrology with a tutor of their choice, attend webinars, listen to mp3 lectures of famous astrologers, attend conferences or gain knowledge through many of the great books available on Vedic astrology.

ACVA's next test out exam will be offered online on January 8, 2011. If you are interested Sign Up for this exam date.

Passing this exam allows your entrance into our ACVA Online Level I class at Module 105 Yogas beginning February 9, 2011. Obtain Flex Program Study Guide.

A Students Study Guide to Nakshatra Memorization by Editor Angela Pennington

A Students Study Guide to Nakshatra Memorization

Nakshatras are rich in imagery and powerful in myth. Becoming familiar with the Lunar Mansions brings depth and focus to natal consultations. The Jyotish who understands a clients Moon in a particular Nakshatra, gains a great understanding of how a person feels and thinks. A vitally important quality for creating an atmosphere of safety and healing for the people who entrust their charts to us. Sharing these ancient stories and their symbols with clients is a powerful tool, helping them to connect with their own divinity and directing them on a path toward personal empowerment.

For the student, Nakshatras can be daunting area of study, especially the thought of memorizing them! After all, there are 27 modern Lunar Mansions each 13 degrees 20' minutes and they have Myths, Deities, Symbols, Degrees, Rulers, Doshas, Elements and more to consider. Whew! Nakshatras are literally a lifetime of study in their own right. Students at ACVA are required to know the Nakshatras before they graduate. Several students have asked me how I learned them. My standard reply is "study a little everyday" but the truth is, in my experience, I have discovered a rhythm to learning them and the chart below is designed to demonstrate the technique:
