Module 101: Foundations of Vedic Astrology
Module 101 presents the historical basis for the Vedas and explains the role Jyotish has in Vedic culture. There is a brief introduction to Hinduism and the key philosophical concepts that make it unique in world religions. The Module introduces the various types of astrology. Module I teaches the basics of astronomy. This knowledge is critical to continued education in Vedic astrology.
Module 102: Introduction to Grahas The Planets
Module 102 is divided into three weeks. This module introduces the first of the cornerstones of Vedic astrology: the graha, or planets. Developing the ability to assess planetary strength and qualities is the first step in Vedic chart interpretation. It is essential to learn the fundamentals of the planets, signs and houses, because all subsequent knowledge of Vedic astrology has its basis in these cornerstones.
Module 103: Introduction to Rasis, Ascendants
Module 103 explores the twelve signs of the zodiac. This module teaches the characteristics of each planet. These characteristics are modified according to the zodiacal sign in which the planet is places in a person’s chart. The use of the zodiac signs is a critical component of astrological interpretation, and it’s important to understand it well.
Module 104: Introduction to Bhavas
Module 104 teaches the final cornerstone of the Jyotish or Vedic system of astrology. This module teaches the more common Sanskrit names for each house and the key significators of each house. It explores the areas of life and events represented by each house. The module gives an understanding of the four aims of live (purusharthas) the characteristics of each sign and the difference between benefit and malefic houses. It teaches about the different house systems, and karaka planets for the houses, how to interpret planets in houses and counting techniques. Module 104 gives an introduction to synthesizing planets, signs, and houses, and shows how to use the North and South Indian chart styles.
Module 105: Introduction to Aspects, Yogas, Conjunctions
Module 105 focuses on planetary yogas. It teaches the definition of a yoga as used in Jyotish and and understanding of how to read the shastras on many different levels. The module explores what each yoga is good for and how it is used, how to evaluate the strength of a yoga, which will determine how noticeable its effects are. It identifies 20 of the most important yogas, including the Maha Purusha yogas and what factors determine whether a yoga will manifest fully.
Module 106: Chart Analysis Part 1
Module 106 teaches the basic principles of how to judge a chart using all the building blocks studied so far. This Interpretation Module offers an approach to apply Vedic astrological knowledge and its associated practices in a systematic and integrated manner. It explains the astronomical background that the chart represents and how to incorporate the influences of Yogas and other special planetary placements and relationships.
Module 107: Nakshatras
Module 107 introduces the Nakshatra or lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. To appreciate the depth and uniqueness of Vedic astrology, one must encounter and explore the nakshatras. The twenty-seven nakshatras are considered to be the original and primordial level of the Hindu zodiacal belt. The Module also introduces the sixteen verge or divisional charts. In particular, the ninth divisional chart, called the Navamsha, will be studied.
Module 108: Chart Analysis Part 2
Module 108 applies what was learned in Module 106 to a specific aspect of the chart. A general approach to chart interpretation is to review a select set of significations or karakas for that chart. This approach is often initiated by a client who primarily wants to focus, for example, on a few areas of their life.
Module 109: Forecasting
Module 109 explores the dynamic indicators that show the timing of events and developments of the life. The system of Vedic astrology encompasses more than interpretation of the meanings embedded in the natal chart. It clarifies the difference between static and dynamic astrological indicators.
Module 110: Remedial Measures
Module 110 teaches what remedial measures are and why you would use them, as well as descriptions of various remedial measures. It covers ethics and counseling skills. The module also introduces other Vedic Sciences. There is a review for Modules 1-9.
